Redeveloping Your Community
Pennsylvania’s people are our most valuable “natural resource” – so we work hard to invigorate our communities. Whether the project involves revitalizing a downtown neighborhood or helping less fortunate families weatherize their houses against the winter chill, we’re committed to making a difference.
Our focus on physical and economic infrastructure improvements creates positive change – and in turn, new opportunities for our citizens. Pennsylvania has a variety of assistance programs that enhance a community’s quality of life through improved housing, water and sewer infrastructure, public facilities and economic assets.
These programs can help:
- Create attractive, livable communities through new construction or housing rehabilitation
- Promote sound land use and revitalization of downtowns, surrounding neighborhoods and industrialized/manufacturing areas
- Improve the quality of life and economic competitiveness of the community
What You Can Do
If you and your organization are ready to invigorate your community, here are some resources to help you get started:
- Community Revitalization Guide – This guide, available as an interactive e-book or a downloadable .pdf file, provides a comprehensive model for community revitalization based upon 30 years of successful redevelopment efforts. It includes a three-step process for attracting private investment to spur new economic growth.
- Main Street/Elm Street Programs – These programs were created to revitalize Pennsylvania’s business districts and older historic neighborhoods.
- Housing – There are many ways to improve housing, from weatherization and other assistance programs to factory-built structures.
