Housing
Making our communities more livable often begins with making our homes more livable! Whether you’re a builder, developer or homeowner, Pennsylvania offers many cost-effective options for more comfortable, efficient housing. These include:
Housing Assistance – DCED’s housing assistance includes help to purchase a home, to rehabilitate or improve a home you already own, and subsidies for developers of affordable rental apartments and homes.
Purchase: People seeking assistance to purchase a home should contact either one of the local agencies (link to list of HOME grantees) that administer DCED programs or the PA Housing Finance Agency (link to www.phfa.org) to learn what resources are available and who is eligible in your community.
Improve/Rehabilitation: People seeking assistance to improve a home should contact one of the local agencies (link to list of HOME grantees) to learn what resources are available and who is eligible in your community.
Home Modifications: People with physical disabilities seeking to make their home more accessible should contact one of the local agencies (link to list of PA Accessible Housing Program grantees) to learn if funding is available and you are eligible for this program.
Rent: People seeking to find an affordable apartment should check the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency website which has an affordable apartment locator.
Weatherization Program – This program helps recipients make their homes more energy efficient, saving them money and keeping them more comfortable.
Factory Built Housing – Manufactured housing and modular housing are economical, time-saving alternatives to building onsite.
