Team Pennsylvania Foundation joined the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Central Penn Business Journal in announcing Pennsylvania’s 100 Best Places to Work during an awards ceremony tonight at the Lancaster County Convention Center.  The winners of this year’s contest employ about 80,000 Pennsylvanians.

“Everyone in this room takes his or her own unique talents into the work place.  That is why it means so much that we recognize employers that honor the talents of their employees,” said Governor Corbett who spoke during the event.  “A good place to work isn’t simply a place to show up for eight hours and draw a pay check.  A good place to work means a place to grow, to build a future, to build a family and to sustain a community.”

Team Pennsylvania is a founding partner and an ongoing lead sponsor of Best Places to Work since the program began 11 years ago.

“Team Pennsylvania Foundation is proud to sponsor a program like the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania competition as we celebrate and honor companies that create a positive work environment for its employees,” said Matt Zieger, president and CEO of Team Pennsylvania Foundation.  “This program is also a benchmarking tool for businesses in the commonwealth; it is a high standard of achievement and a distinction that makes businesses more attractive to their clients and potential employees.”

The Best Places to Work in PA includes two groups of 65 companies: small/medium-sized firms with 25-250 employees and 35 large-sized companies with 251 employees or more.

The rankings are compiled through research via a survey that’s sent to employers and employees from hundreds of companies in the commonwealth. Using a formula similar to Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America,” the Best Companies Group scores the workplace practices survey along with the employee survey and each Best Places to Work candidate is given an overall score.

    To be eligible, participating companies must:
        • Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business;
        • Be a publicly or privately held business;
        • Have a facility in Pennsylvania;
        • Have at least 25 employees in Pennsylvania; and
        • Be in good standing with all commonwealth agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction.

"We recognize companies during this event that strive for and create a positive and rewarding work environment through innovative practices," said David A. Schankweiler, publisher, Central Penn Business Journal. "By recognizing these outstanding companies, we are promoting Pennsylvania as a leader in the business community."

Winners will be highlighted in a special newspaper supplement produced by the Central Penn Business Journal that will be distributed statewide this week.
