Super Computer Center
The Pittsburgh Supercomputer Center (PSC) is a federally-sponsored program operated by Carnegie Mellon University and Westinghouse Electric Company. The Supercomputing Center facilitates scientific and engineering research requiring high-performance computing. The Center also educates and trains researchers in computational sciences and associated fields. The state funds serve as match to the federal funds and provide for computer time to be made available to Pennsylvania private entities with large-scale computing needs. The PSC is funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health, and by private industry and the commonwealth. The PSC concentrates its efforts in three principal areas (economic development, education, and networking) with focal areas that include service and support, research, education and outreach, and human resource development. The PSC continues to provide a schedule of training seminars and computational programs and assistance for businesses and academic researchers at various levels.
