Keystone Innovation Starter Kit
Keystone Innovation Starter Kits (KISKs) provide funds to Pennsylvania academic medical centers, non-profit research institutions and Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ)-participating Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) for recruitment of top faculty researchers in the areas of nanotechnology and energy only. The Starter Kit program is a companion program to the Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) program.

Uses:
The funds will be utilized to "build out" labs, hire staff to assist the newly recruited faculty hires, purchase equipment, and leverage research their research in the areas of nanotechnology and energy only. These investments will be part of an attraction tool to bring new faculty researchers and additional support positions to the Commonwealth.
Funding:
$1.0 million in funding from Fiscal Year 2009-10 will be allocated to the Starter Kit Program.
Eligibility:
KIZ-participating institutions of higher education, academic medical centers and non-profit research institutions.
Terms:
Each grant request may not exceed $150,000, and must be matched by the applicant on a cash $1 to $1 basis. Each institution may submit no more than one application or grant requests. Allocation of Starter Kit Grant Funds will be considered only for research faculty within the areas of nanotechnology and energy only who has been hired up to one year after the Starter Kit official award date.
