PREP Region Profile

Business Demographics

The Southern Alleghenies region’s economy is more diverse now than it was a decade ago, with no reliance on any one sector. The decline in manufacturing and the concurrent growth of other sectors (e.g., healthcare/social services assistance, retail trade, construction, and accommodations/food services) are contributing factors to this diversification. However, nearly two-thirds of the jobs in the region are concentrated in five sectors and no other sector constitutes more than five percent of total regional employment.
