Pennsylvania Makes Top 5
Site Selection magazine released its 2008 report on new and expanded corporate facilities in the U.S., and Pennsylvania ranked in the top 5 overall and saw dramatic increases in key industries like advanced manufacturing and materials. This is the highest ranking Pennsylvania has received since 1980 and the first time since 2005 it has appeared in the Top 10.
Specifically, Pennsylvania ranked 2nd in capital investment, 4th in total projects and 5th in jobs created.
In other manufacturing news, W.S. Packaging Group Inc., an industry leader in the production of printing and flexible packaging for retail, commercial and industrial markets, recently announced it is expanding operations in Pennsylvania. As part of the project, the company will move production from its facility in Salem, Ohio to Pennsylvania. Construction on the $2.4 million project is expected to begin immediately, and the company expects the facility to be at full capacity by September.
Pennsylvania provided W.S. Packaging Group with a $1.2 million funding offer that included a $50,000 opportunity grant, a $400,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, a $675,000 loan from the machinery and equipment loan fund, $23,400 in job training assistance and $52,000 in job creation tax credits.
